PEELING AND BLISTERING

These common paint problems often are caused by moisture. In fact, moisture is the culprit in many paint problems. Moisture trapped inside your home may harm your exterior paint and substrate.

How The Marathon Painting System Corrects the Problem:
Proper preparation is vital.
The peeling, blistering, flaking areas are scraped-off by the Painting Crew. If bare wood is exposed from the prep, it is primed with a stain-blocking primer. Marathon Premium RT Primer penetrates the substrate and acts to lock-down the existing coating. It's high-build characteristics fill cracks and joints and smoothes the substrate, acting as a superior barrier and the ultimate first coat.

ALLIGATORING AND CRACKLING

This problem is caused by paint decay. The paint breaks down its barrier and causes a wrinkling and exposure of the substructure.

How The Marathon Painting System Corrects the Problem:
Old paint needs to be striped to the bare wood, using a sander, scrapper or wire brush. Again, a Primer needs to be applied to form a protective barrier against the elements. See above info on our Marathon Primer use.

CHALKING

Some exterior paints chalk to help clean the paint. Chalking builds up leaving a white dusty surface.

How The Marathon Painting System Corrects the Problem:
Powerwashing the exterior before Primer and Coating is applied is the best step in riding the surface of chalking. Our crews check each application to make sure the surfaces are sound and ready to accept our products.

FADING

The brightness or color pigment has lost its luster.

How The Marathon Painting System Corrects the Problem:
The Marathon System uses the Marathon Peel-Stop Primer™ as the first-coat for superior adhesion, bonding, and flexibility to resist peeling. The topcoat paints are 100% acrylic latex paints that are formulated to better handle the early fading problems. Our System uses Primers and Paints with advanced formulation of high quality acrylic resins that extend the elegant appearance of your painted home or buildings.

SURFACTANT LEACHING

These are spots or streaks of sticky brown or colorless material that may appear on the surface caused by moisture from rain or dew.

How The Marathon Painting System Corrects the Problem:
Marathon uses the best Primer and Coating on the market. Our products are resistant to water penetration while allowing moisture out of the substructure, allowing it to breathe. Our Marathon System protects your valuable substructure with a protective barrier.

MILDEW AND FUNGUS

This is a stubborn bacterial growth that feeds on your substructure and can cause serious problems.

How The Marathon Painting System Corrects the Problem:
These problem areas must be attacked at the beginning of the coating process. During the powerwashing of the structure, special solutions are needed to kill the fungus and wash it from your exterior. Our Marathon Systems products have mildew-resistant proporties to halt the future growth of mildew.

HOUSE PAINT FAILURE

When a home shows signs of peeling, cracking mildew, streaking before its time. A few explanations include improper preparation, moisture, improper application, paint quality and not using a proper primer.

How The Marathon Painting System Corrects the Problem:
Use a two-coat application combing and advanced Primer rather than a first coat of paint. For the topcoat, use a thicker, more protective coating rather than paint. You will receive unsurpassed durability and lasting beauty with Marathon Painting's seven-part application process, and our Marathon Systems two coat system.
